Troubling Times

Updated: Mar 13

John 16:33 – "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Devotion:

Life can often feel overwhelming. Whether it’s personal struggles, financial burdens, or global crises, troubling times can shake our faith and leave us feeling anxious and uncertain. But Jesus, in His wisdom, prepared us for this. He didn’t promise a trouble-free life; instead, He reassured us that in Him, we can find peace even in the storm.

When the disciples faced uncertainty and fear, Jesus reminded them that He had already overcome the world. This victory wasn’t just for them—it’s for us too. No matter how dark our circumstances may seem, we can trust in His sovereignty. He is our refuge, our strength, and our ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

During difficult times, we have two choices: we can focus on our problems, or we can focus on God’s promises. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we are reminded that He is greater than any storm we face. His love, power, and faithfulness never change, even when everything around us does.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What troubling situation in your life do you need to surrender to God?

  2. How can you remind yourself of God’s promises when fear or worry creeps in?

  3. Who in your life needs encouragement to trust in God’s peace?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, in the midst of trouble, I turn to You. I know that You are greater than any storm I face. Fill my heart with Your peace and remind me that You have already overcome the world. Help me trust You more each day and rest in Your unchanging love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
