What's the reason behind our existence?

Colossians 1:15-20 (NIV)

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,

20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Learnings from Colossians 1:15-20

1. Christ Reveals God to Us

• Jesus is the image of the invisible God (v.15).

• This means that knowing Jesus is knowing God, as He fully represents the Father’s nature and character.

2. Jesus is Supreme Over Creation

• All things were created through Him and for Him (v.16).

• This reminds us that Jesus is not a created being—He is the eternal Creator and the rightful ruler over everything.

3. Jesus Holds Everything Together

• He sustains the universe (v.17).

• This gives us confidence that no matter what happens in life, Jesus is in control.

4. Jesus is the Head of the Church

• He leads and gives life to His people (v.18).

• The church should always look to Christ as its foundation and guide.

5. Jesus is the Source of Reconciliation

• Through His blood on the cross, He made peace between God and humanity (v.20).

• Salvation is only possible through Christ, and His sacrifice restores our relationship with God.
